With a strategic reduction in the number of gears, the result is larger teeth for indexing. These enhanced indexing teeth translate to diminished wear and tear over time. The minimised frequency of shifts contributes to an elongated lifespan for shifters, while the reduction in gears also curtails derailleur movement and cultivates a superior Chainline. This reduction in shifting ultimately extends the longevity of the derailleur as well. Moreover, when paired with an improved Chainline, the benefits accumulate with less overall wear and tear. Notably, the 9-sprocket configuration boasts a lighter weight compared to its 12-speed counterparts, further optimised by a distinctive geometry that accommodates beefier side plates, setting it apart from 12-speed drivetrains.
